THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY: DREAM DEMON

Author: Nick Shadow

Price: RM 25.00 (Malaysia)

Where did I get this: The Borders Bookstore, The Garden’s

In this book have 3 different stories. Dream Demon, The Race & Carnival Dance. Dream Demon: Alfie doesn’t want to sleep at Granny Dorry’s house, especially not in the bedroom of his dead uncle. But when he has nightmares that are a little too real, Alfie doesn’t want to sleep at all…

My Optics: These stories have their own ‘spooky’ moment. Nothing to do with vampires, Freddy or any other psyco ghost character. They’re just scary stories that will chilled you out. It’s really make you hard to sleep. Best time to read, middle of the night, under your blanket with a torchlight.

Cover: Nice. Did not scared at all. It’s like a book for a naughty kid. They can make a better cover than this. But the using of dark and light color was COOL.

Last comment: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Enjoy your night at THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY~~~

KARIPAP-KARIPAP CINTA (THE LOVE CURRYPUFFS)

Author: Nazri M. Annuar

Price: RM 14.00

Release Year: 2010

Where To Get: All MPH and POPULAR bookstores.

This story is about Ali, a reporter from a paranormal magazine that always faked his stories. He do that to please his boss, Datuk Razali Bunari, a politician that can’t be trusted. One day, he meet Sarah, an attractive, silat-expert comic artist and fall in love with her. He also dare to learn to make currypuff for Sarah after he know that are Sarah’s favorite.

The problem started when Datuk Razali Bunari got a document that will make his politician enemy out from his way, and Ali need to cover the story. But that document will destroy Sarah’s father’s life forever. Between career and love, which must come first?

My Optic: The author make this story simple and understandable. There are a few parody songs that had been changed from the originals. If you know the real song, you will be laughed to read this. The language using really funky and you want to read it again and again at the same phrase or chapter.

Cover: COOL!!! It’s look like a DVD story cover. With the hero that covered his face with kain pelekat and the heroin look cute with pink clothes combine with stylish glasses. Very out of the box. I thought that this book was really based from a movie or drama but it’s not. The telemovie or movie that using the same title will released to public in 2011.

Last comment: Want a really light, non-literature reading? This MEAL  is just for you. Still smoking…

THE SHORT SECOND LIFE OF BREE TANNER

Author: Stephenie Meyer

Price: $13.99 (US), $16.99 (Canada), RM 49.90 (Malaysia’s hard cover).

Where to buy: All MPH bookstore.

This time no Bella, no Edward and no Jacob. This book was called ‘an Eclipse Novella’ because Bree character can be find in ‘Eclipse’ (with no name mention. Just cameo.) It’s about a girl that had been changed to a vampire illegally by Riley & Victoria. Her character different from Bella because she had been forced to be a vampire and her head had been brainwashed by Riley together with other newborn. They just out during dark because occurring to Riley, they will get burned under the sun.

Bree is different from other newborn because she did not want to hurt people. With the help of her friend’s, Diego & Fred, she can survive without hurting anybody & being hurt. Problem started when they both discover that they did not burn under the sun, just make a ‘supernova’ glow. Diego told Bree that he will talk to Riley about that. But once Diego went to Riley, he never come back. What happen to Diego?

My optics: This book just as same as other ‘Twilight’ books. (With less pages). I imagined Diego much more handsome than Edward but less tough than Jacob.(^_^) The words using were very literature. So, I think somebody will have an headache understanding the meaning in some scenes.

Cover: Very simple + very COOL. The using of the sand clock with red sand or blood (you decide) were amusing. The red, black and white at this cover really fit with ‘Twilight’ trademark.

Last comment: If you are really into ‘Twilight’, you have to buy this novella.

SEMBILAN NYAWA (NINE LIVES) by RAMLEE AWANG MURSHID

DSC02082

Like I had promised before, I will show Malay book also instead of English. It doesn’t mean that I will forget about The Wimpy kid, but let focus to this first.

This story about a girl called Intan Suryani, who had illness after she get into an accident that killed her father. She will get in coma and back on track a few minutes later. When she was in coma in Singapore, she met Hakim, a kind blind guy that can see her soul while she was ‘dead’. Start from there, their adventure between two worlds begin.

For me, this story was very fresh and unexpected from Malaysian’s NO.1 Thriller Author. From cannibal to revenge, this book really make me feel bad just not to know the ending. Every fact in it was told fictionally and I thought this story was real. Although there was a bit slow in the beginning when the writer want to introduce Intan Suryani and her ‘9 lives’ illness, it had been cover up when they meet. You really don’t want to miss this story.

I bought this book at MPH bookstore, Giant Shah Alam for RM 19.90. That is the standard price for a lot of novels in market. It still on sale, you can find it in majority bookshop and bookstore. GO GET IT!!!  (Don’t be so sure that your live will be nine after reading this book.)

by JEFF KINNEY

Well, this is the sequel of The Diary of A Wimpy Kid. This JURNAL tell us about an incident in the summer that no one will know in school. Unfortunately for Greg, his brother Rodrick know about that and he need to do something so the secret will not break from it shell. So, RODRICK RULES!!! And Greg have to admit it. I got this book at the same bundle booth at front of the KL Monorail. At the same price as the first book, RM 18. I just don’t know where is it now. But I will try to find another bundle bookshop or reading at MPH or POPULAR or BORDERS to get any of my favorite books, or I can say, to make this bookstore look like a bookstore. If you as broke as me, you need follow my style because the price of the book are 2x EXPENSIVE than in that bundle book booth (RM 40.00++). Don’t worry, they will not put you into prison just because you read a book. And FYI, I have some collection of Malay Novels and Stories.  But maybe I update it next time. For now, go pick up the little secret this little Greg want to keep about. And if you have watch the movie, you need to wait for the second movie based from this book because it will out, in God willng, 2011. One of my friend can’t wait to watch his future hubby (don’t hope toooooooooo much my dear…) to be Rodrick again in that movie. Hehehe…    c <3 l-l

Diary of A Wimpy Kid

DSC02074

Diary of A Wimpy Kid is kind of a good story I have ever read. I bought it just for RM18 at a bundle book booth at front of the KL Monorail. But poorly, I can’t find that booth after the road at KL Sentral had become one way road. Huhu… It's not just an ordinary diary, or can I say, JURNAL. It will make you laugh and sometimes keep your mind thinking about your best friend that hurts because of you. Well, you can find this book at MPH, but my suggestion, just read it there because it cost more than RM18 at MPH bookstore.

P/S: Still want to find a Malay book called ‘Manikam Kalbu’ by Faisal Tehrani a product of DBP( Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka). If anyone have information about where to get this book please make me know.
